Temporary or Casual Employment

Temporary work, as the term implies, is when the employee is expected to leave after a specified period of time or after the completion of a particular project. These workers are also known as contract workers, seasonal workers, or temporary workers. The task they are hired for will determine the hours they will work, some will work full time like long term casual employment rights and some only part time. In most cases, temporary workers are not entitled to any benefits, but in certain lucky cases, temporary workers will receive the same treatment as permanent workers. Many temporary workers find their jobs through temp agencies that have many contacts in the business world and an established reputation, which can make the job search easier. But not all temporary workers go down that path; Many jobs can be found in the local classified ads, on the Internet, or even posted in your local grocery store.

A temp agency can be differentiated from a recruitment company by the type of employees it places. Recruitment companies place permanent employees. However, overlaps can occur when temporary workers become permanent or when permanent workers like long term casual employment rights start on a temporary basis.

The job of the temp agency is to find and retain workers so that when other companies, needing short-term workers, contact the agency, the agency has a list of candidates it can choose to send from. Temporary workers are also useful in cyclical or seasonal work that requires staffing levels to be adjusted frequently. An agency may specialize in a particular field, such as the medical field, IT, or secretarial work. Some agencies even specialize in providing helpful staff for odd jobs.

When an applicant has her first interview with a temporary employment agency, she will have to complete a series of competency tests to judge the level of skills. This is especially necessary in the secretarial field. Once the results are known, they are entered into a database. When a company wants to hire someone with a specific set of skills, the agency looks it up in the database and contacts the most likely employee to see if he or she is interested in the position.

Once the employee accepts an assignment, he will receive job-related instructions, e.g. Appropriate clothing for the job, hours of work, wages, and who to report to. If there is a problem, for example, if the employee is asked to perform tasks that are not described to him, he should call the agency and speak with a representative. They have the option of not continuing the assignment but may lose future employment opportunities through that agency.

Temporary employees are never sure how long a job will last or when their next job will arrive. It is your responsibility to stay in contact with your agency when you are unemployed, continually reminding the agency that you are available. In this way, they are likely to be given priority when jobs come over those who did not seem so eager to work.

Despite the uncertainties that accompany temporary employment, there are some benefits to seeking the help of a temporary employment agency, including: 1) easy hiring – if the type of job you are looking for has technical requirements and it is recommended by an agency, you are almost guaranteed the job without the selection process. 2) Flexible Hours: You can choose which shifts you want to work, you can take weekends off, go on vacation, or take time off for personal appointments, you can also choose to work these days for extra pay. 3) The wages of temporary workers are sometimes higher than the wages of a permanent worker in a similar position. 4) You are less likely to be fired than if you had a permanent position, although the company has the right to ask the agency not to send you back for any other assignment.

The disadvantages of going through temporary agencies include: 1) no benefits such as health insurance. 2) Reduced Liability Protection. Without liability insurance, temporary workers can be held liable for any mistakes that result in damage and can be sued for negligence. 3) Lack of references as most employers do not consider the period of employment long enough to warrant a recommendation on a resume.

Due to its advantages and disadvantages, temporary work is a lifestyle that suits you or not. Some people really enjoy the
