King Von was an iconic Chicago rapper with immense starpower. Although much of his life revolved around violence, this charismatic storyteller knew exactly how to engage and inspire audiences through storytelling.
After dabbling in rap for some time, Von signed with Lil Durk’s OTF label and released his single “Crazy Story.” It quickly gained him more fans than anticipated.
Storyteller
King Von was an expert at using flow, wordplay and rhyme to convey emotion and intensity through his music. A master storyteller, his songs captured street life perfectly while his lyrics shed light on violence occurring within marginalized communities.
“Took Her to the O,” King Von’s most enduring and captivating song, tells of a tragic incident where a Kankakee stripper was shot during an altercation with one of her rivals and died shortly thereafter. The song became one of his signature tracks and displayed his remarkable talent as both rapper and storyteller.
King Von’s song depicted the harsh realities of street life with themes of loyalty and betrayal among gang members, reflecting his deep, raw lyrics – which contributed significantly to his success as a rapper and music industry member. King Von will be sorely missed by his fans and members of the music world alike.
Fearless
King Von was part of an elite class of Chicago rappers that provided musical relief in its most war-torn neighborhoods. As one of the best pure lyricists from his era of drill, he helped popularize personal storytelling through infectious bravado.
Dayvon Daquan Bennett, better known by his stage name King Von, hails from Parkway Gardens – an O’Block area on Chicago’s South Side. Signing to Lil Durk’s Only the Family label imprint and Empire Distribution for distribution, King Von has patiently awaited his moment to shine as his dynamic flows and cadences coincided with storytelling to elevate drill music to new levels.
In 2019, Grandson Vol. 1 made its debut and his 2020 album Welcome to O’Block boasted Lil Durk, Polo G, Moneybagg Yo, among others as features. Levon James arrived the following year with more features and his signature brag-rap style that helped solidify his star status even further.
Lil Durk
King Von was an emerging star of Chicago rap with a fierce presence and bold style. His songs often featured narrative themes with elements of dead-eye nihilism mixed in with humor and empathy; Von existed within post-drill Chicago rap, paying his dues to first generation drill stars such as G Herbo and Chief Keef but seeking his own identity within this genre.
Lil Durk had an uneasy relationship with Von prior to his death in November 2020. They had been feuding over an alleged robbery at Monaco Hookah Lounge in downtown Atlanta that left three individuals shot. Their differences appear connected with Lul Tim, or Timothy Leeks who was charged with murder but released after posting $100,000 bond.
After Von was murdered, Durk wrote and released “Backdoor”, featuring himself wearing his late friend’s iconic O’Block chain as a touching tribute. The video features him wearing the chain while looking off into the distance while wearing it himself; its popularity quickly made an impactful statement from other rappers such as Lil Reese and NLE Choppa.
Only The Family
King Von was born Dayvon Bennett and represented Chicago’s O-Block. After spending many years behind bars for various offenses, he took up music professionally upon being released in 2017. Signed to Lil Durk’s label ‘Only the Family’ upon being released from prison in 2017, his single ‘Crazy Story’ quickly rose up the charts, becoming a smash hit and making King Von one of Chicago’s recognizable faces.
He was an incredibly skilled and versatile rapper, possessing both an exceptional vocal range and adept dancing abilities. Furthermore, his fans adored him due to his charming persona and fans loved seeing their idol perform live!
He was an active member of the Black Disciples Gang, often mentioning them in his music and sporting BD’s six-point star tattooed on his face. Additionally, he was an outstanding son, brother and father; having shared custody of their child with Asian Doll; they often posted photos of them online together.
King Von’s death came as a shock to the rap world. Known for his gritty lyrics and honest storytelling style, he amassed a large fan base.
King Von autopsy photo has gone viral online and caused widespread outrage among his family and fans. His sister has called out an alleged mortician for leaking these photos.
